In a significant move following its acquisition by LANDR, Reason Studios has announced a major restructuring of its product lineup. The company is breaking down the walls of its ecosystem, making its legendary sound design tools more accessible to users of other DAWs, while packing massive value into its subscription model.
For years, the "Reason Rack" was the envy of producers—a modular playground of cables and analog-style routing. Now, for the first time, you can buy the Rack as a standalone plugin without purchasing the full Reason DAW license.
Here is the breakdown of the new pricing and features.
The Reason Rack: Now a Standalone Offering
Previously, to get the Reason Rack Plugin (to use inside Ableton, Logic, Pro Tools, etc.), you had to buy the full Reason software.
That changes today. The Reason Rack is now available as a separate product.
-
What you get: Access to Reason’s 60+ iconic instruments, effects, and the modular workflow via VST3, AU, or AAX.
-
The Price: $319 AUD for a perpetual license (
This is a massive win for producers who are happy with their current DAW but have always wanted access to powerhouses like Europa, Thor, or the Players MIDI effects, without paying for a sequencer they don't need.
Reason DAW: Price Drop
For the die-hard fans who love the deep sequencing workflow and the cohesive environment of the full software, Reason has permanently lowered the price of entry.
Reason DAW is now priced at $479 AUD It remains the full-featured production environment creators know and love, just more attainable.
Reason+ Gets the LANDR Treatment
Perhaps the most interesting development is the expansion of the Reason+ subscription. Leveraging the resources of its new parent company, LANDR, the subscription now covers the entire "idea-to-release" pipeline.
For $269 AUD/year, subscribers now get:
-
The full Reason Rack and DAW.
-
AI Mastering: Professional mastering tools from LANDR.
-
Distribution: Global music distribution capabilities.
-
Samples: Access to a library of over 3 million samples.
-
AI Tools: Stem separation, vocal restoration, and sample adaptation.
Pascal Pilon, CEO of LANDR, noted that the changes are a direct response to artist feedback:
"Artists have been clear about wanting more flexibility, features and value. These changes are designed to deliver on those needs while preserving the creative workflow that makes Reason unique."
Availability
These changes are effective immediately. Whether you are looking to add the Rack to your template or jump into the full ecosystem, the barriers to entry just got a lot lower.
What do you think of the unbundling of the Rack? Will this convince you to finally add Reason's synths to your Logic or Cubase sessions? Let us know in the comments!
