Kit Plugins NP A67 (Digital Download)

This Isn't Emulation, It's Preservation

NP A67 faithfully recreates the unique sonic character of a custom‑modified Altec 1567A tube mixer/preamp unit used at Norman Petty Studios in Clovis, NM—infamous for shaping the “Clovis Sound” heard on iconic recordings of the era’s by Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and more.

NP A67 is a thoughtfully crafted homage to Norman Petty’s sonic legacy. It blends authentic tube-driven tone with enhanced mid‑band control, all in a single-plugin workflow. Whether you're tracking vocals, drums, guitars, or mastering, NP A67 brings vintage character with modern flexibility—letting you sculpt rich, era-defining warmth across generations of recorded sound.

Where Rock & Roll was Born

The 'Clovis Sound'

Norman’s Altec 1567A

The first plugin in the Norman Petty Collection is Norman’s custom modded Altec 1567A. This component was part of a larger mixing console used by Norman in the late 1950's to record countless artists. It features the smooth, silky saturation found on many fifties vocal tracks — with the ability to drive saturation in a specific frequency band or engage high-pass or low-pass filters.

A Lost Collection of Rock History

For over sixty years, Norman Petty’s personal studio sat untouched. Home to his work with Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and a host of other rock pioneers, this unique space in Clovis, New Mexico was eventually abandoned when Petty moved to a larger building. Now, thanks to our industry-leading intensive modeling process, you can get the unique harmonic saturation of his custom modded gear in your DAW.
