A gate that knows which frequencies to close on.

Gatey Watey 2 is Boz Digital Labs' second take on its frequency-aware gate. Instead of slamming the whole signal shut, it splits the audio at a crossover point and gates the high and low bands separately. Cut the hiss, spill and fizz up top while the body of the sound keeps ringing underneath.

The layout is as simple as the original, but version 2 adds the things people asked for: separate range controls for each band, internal and external sidechain, a resizable interface and native Apple Silicon support.

What's new in version 2

• Independent High and Low range. Set exactly how much each band is turned down, rather than choosing one band to gate.
• Internal and external sidechain. Key the gate from another track, such as a kick or snare trigger, for tighter and more predictable results.
• Resizable GUI. Scale the window to suit your screen.
• Apple Silicon native. Runs natively on M-series Macs with no Rosetta workaround.

How it works

• Dual-band gain reduction. A crossover splits the signal so highs can be reduced harder than lows, which sounds far more natural on drums and guitars.
• Adjustable crossover. Put the split point where it suits the source.
• Linked mode. Lock the two bands together when you just want a conventional broadband gate.
• Lookahead. The gate opens slightly before the hit, so transients come through intact.
• Less pumping. Because the low end isn't choked, you avoid the obvious 'silence after noise' effect of a standard gate.

Who it's for: Mix engineers cleaning up drum spill, tom ring, amp hum or cymbal wash without the gate becoming obvious. It's also handy on dialogue and podcast tracks with background noise. If you already own the original Gatey Watey, version 2 is worth it for the sidechain input and native Apple Silicon support alone.
