You bought a UF8 or a UC1 so you'd stop reaching for the mouse. Then you found the seams — track colours that don't match what's on screen, solo and mute that feel one step removed, a jump back to the on-screen mixer just to ride a pan. Small frictions, but they add up over a mixing day.
SSL 360° V2.1 is the update that closes most of those gaps. It's the software layer that powers SSL's U Series control surfaces — UF8, UF1 and UC1 — and this release is aimed squarely at Logic Pro and Pro Tools users who have been quietly living with workarounds.

Logic Pro, Finally Speaking the Same Language
The headline for Logic users is that the UC1 now talks to Logic Pro properly. You get synchronised track selection, so what you touch on the surface is what's selected on screen. Logic Pro track colours carry across to the hardware. Solo and mute now communicate directly with Logic's own functions rather than going the long way round. And the UC1 can drive Logic's track volume and pan directly, which removes one of the most common reasons to abandon the surface mid-mix and grab the trackpad.
Those same improvements flow through to UF8 and UF1 owners working in the SSL Plug-in Mixer layer — synchronised selection, track colours, direct solo and mute, volume and pan, plus control of up to eight sends per track on the UF8.
Pro Tools Gets Its Details Sorted
Pro Tools users get the fixes they've been asking for. UF8 and UF1 displays now show eight-character track names instead of truncating them into guesswork, and they reflect Pro Tools track colours directly on the scribble strips. Automation is quicker too: you can drop tracks into automation modes without first engaging Auto Selection Mode. The UC1 now communicates directly with Pro Tools' solo and mute functions as well.
A Plug-in Mixer That Stops Getting In Your Way
V2.0 introduced Hybrid Mode; V2.1 pushes it further. A wider range of UF8 and UF1 controls stay live while you're working inside the Plug-in Mixer layer — Soft Keys, Cursor Keys, Quick Keys and the UF1's Scrub mode. In practice that means you keep transport and DAW shortcuts under your fingers instead of hopping between layers every time you want to roll back a bar.
The Plug-in Mixer itself picks up eight new virtual Soft Keys for HUI and MCU commands, and here's the interesting part: they work even without UF8 or UF1 hardware connected. In Logic Pro, Cubase, Nuendo, Studio One, LUNA, Bitwig and Reaper you can also reach automation mode controls directly from the Plug-in Mixer.
Harrison 32Classic V2, Natively Integrated
The other significant addition is native SSL 360° and UC1 support for the new Harrison 32Classic Channel Strip V2. Drop the updated plug-in into a DAW session and you can control it from the UC1 without needing SSL 360° Link, and it shows up natively in the SSL 360° Plug-in Mixer alongside SSL's own channel strip plug-ins. If you've been running the 32Classic and the SSL strips side by side, that's one less mental context switch.
The Specs That Matter

Should You Update?
If you're on Logic Pro or Pro Tools with a U Series controller, this is the closest SSL 360° has come to feeling like the surface and the DAW are one instrument rather than two devices negotiating. Andy Jackson, SSL's Senior Product Manager for Studio, called V2.1 "some of the most significant quality-of-life updates to the U Series Controllers and SSL 360° to date" — and on the evidence of the change list, that's a fair reading rather than marketing gloss.
