Meet the New SSL autoSeries

For decades, the debate in the audio world has often been binary: do you want the undeniable character of classic analog modeling, or do you want the speed and precision of modern AI-assisted tools?

Usually, you have to choose. But with the latest announcement from Solid State Logic (SSL), the line between legendary sound and futuristic workflow just got erased.

SSL has officially launched the autoSeries, a new family of plug-ins that combines their best-in-class SSL 4000 modeling with the cutting-edge AI analysis of sonible.

For musicians, engineers, and producers, this is a massive workflow unlock. Here is everything you need to know about the new AutoEQ, autoDYN, and autoBUS.

Legend Meets Innovation

We are all familiar with the SSL legacy. Their consoles defined the sound of the 80s and 90s, shaping records for artists ranging from Peter Gabriel and Metallica to Nirvana and Dr. Dre. On the other side of the spectrum is sonible, a company that has spent the last decade leading the charge in AI-assisted audio processing (think smart:EQ).

The autoSeries creates a bridge between these two worlds. These are the only official SSL 4000 Series plug-ins on the market that leverage sonible’s AI.

As Alex Wankhammer, sonible CMO, put it: "This initial partnership with SSL showcases how new machine learning tools can combine with traditional processing techniques to offer users something very unique."

The Lineup
The series consists of three plug-ins, each designed to help you find the "sweet spot" instantly using adaptive profiles.

1. AutoEQ
The Vibe: The legendary SSL 4000 E Channel Strip. The Tech: Intelligent spectral analysis.

The AutoEQ isn't just about flattening a curve; it's about imparting that classic "E Series" presence and clarity while fixing resonant issues. The AI analyzes your source—whether it’s a vocal, guitar, or snare—and recommends musical EQ moves based on the specific genre or instrument profile. It delivers that console-accurate analog character, but gives you a pro-level starting point in seconds.

2. autoDYN
The Vibe: SSL 4000 E Channel Strip Compressor/Gate/Expander. The Tech: Source-characteristic detection for optimal attack and release.

Dialing in a gate that is tight but musical, or compression that is punchy without killing transients, takes time. autoDYN speeds this up by analyzing the dynamic range of your audio. It suggests settings for the compressor, gate, and expander that are style-matched to your source material. It’s perfect for getting aggressive drums or consistent vocals without the guesswork.

3. autoBUS
The Vibe: The SSL 4000 G Bus Compressor (The "Glue"). The Tech: Genre-optimized mix bus processing.

This might be the most exciting tool in the bundle. The G Bus Comp is arguably the most coveted production tool in history. autoBUS brings that "glued" sound to your mix bus or subgroups, but with AI assistance that optimizes the settings for the genre you are working in. Whether you need a setting for a Full Mix, a Drum Bus, or a Vocal group, autoBUS sets the threshold and ratios to get you 90% of the way there instantly.

Why This Matters for Your Workflow

The goal of the autoSeries isn't to mix the song for you—it's to keep you in the creative zone.

Every parameter remains fully editable. The AI provides a "learn-as-you-mix" roadmap for beginners, while giving seasoned professionals a rapid way to apply their personalized touch without getting bogged down in technical tweaking.

The autoSeries is available now. If you are looking to grab these, SSL is running a special introductory offer through January 26th, 2026.

The Verdict

At Koala Audio, we love gear that respects the past while embracing the future. The autoSeries looks like an essential toolkit for producers who want that expensive console sound but need to move at the speed of modern production.
